b) Intermediate temperature thermosyphons
There are many applications for thermosyphons in the 250-400°C operating range, though one of the
main issues is the type of working fluids used in this temperature range. Organic fluids have great
potential due to their appropriate operational properties, though they may decompose or dissociate,
generating non-condensable gases and therefore compromising the thermosyphon efficiency. Research on
such fluids involves the study of non-condensable gas formation inside the thermosyphon, and the
compatibility between the tube material and the working fluid in operation.
The main application of intermediate temperature fluids is in
heat exchangers.
