Thermosyphon technology applied to distillation towers focuses on optimizing heat and mass
exchanges between the liquid and gaseous phases necessary in oil distillation towers. Such
optimization allows energy savings, increasing separation efficiency, and more importantly,
reduces distillation towers size.
Thermosyphons can replace the low efficiency heat exchangers currently being used in distillation
processes. The development of such technology explores the possibility of oil distillation in small
facilities, with little power available, which is the case of platforms, and FPSO (Offshore Floating
Production System).
