A kit for medium size electric ovens used in bakeries was developed in LABTUCAL for conversion into gas ovens. The project proposal came into context in a recent electric power crisis in Brazil, in which the federal government began encouraging the use of natural gas, which is widely available in the territory but it is little used by small and medium businesses. As well as adapting electric ovens for gas operation, the conversion kit also intends to improve temperature distribution in the cooking chamber, which improves bread quality, saves energy, and therefore lowers production costs.
