7. Development of Heat Pipe Assisted Distillation Technology Applied to Offshore Heavy Crude Oil - DESTUBCAL

Period:

2008 / Present

Description:

The objective of this project is to evaluate the possibility of using heat pipes in both atmospheric and vacuum distillation towers in order to reduce their size, height, weight, and energy consumption, as well as eliminating support devices such as heat exchangers. This will make extra heavy crude oil distillation easier in environments with small physical space and/or power availability, such as Floating Production Systems Offshore (FPSO's), in order to obtain distilled oils to dilute extra heavy crude oil.
